THE COLLABORATIVE TEAM ALTERNATIVE

The collaborative family law model differs from mediation and other forms of dispute resolution in the formation of a contractual commitment not to litigate and the support of an individually tailored cross-disciplinary team.  Unlike the family courts, where “separate” issues are usually resolved in separate settings with separate personnel, the collaborative approach allows you to address all issues in one place and develop a comprehensive solution.

The Collaborative Family Law Affiliates is a group of experienced, independent professionals trained in the collaborative divorce process.   The team can include any one or a number of professionals including domestic relations lawyers for each party.  Depending on your specific situation, you can decide whether you would benefit from the expertise of one of our other trained professionals. 

You may find that one of our neutral financial advisors can provide valuable information with regard to the financial implications of a divorce settlement.  Our financial experts can help you accurately value assets, explain the tax effects of a proposed settlement, evaluate the effect of a settlement on savings and retirement goals, or simply help you determine a realistic budget given your changing financial situation.  The advantage of working with a neutral advisor helps to ensure that the financial consequences of divorce are not overlooked.

The collaborative process relies upon transparency of information.   Our coaches can help participants engage in an open, honest process to end their marriage, resolve their family-related conflicts, and support their children’s welfare. 

If you do have children, our co-parenting experts can help counsel parents and children to provide guidance on transitioning from one household to two.  And our mental health professionals can assist you with the emotional aspects associated with going through a divorce.
