Ms.Southworth is a licensed marital and family therapist and serves as a coach with the Collaborative Family Law Affiliates, of which she is a charter member. She is also a licensed attorney and a mediator. Since 1989, Ms. Southworth has been a member of the Senior Staff at Council for Relationships, a Philadelphia-based agency providing relationship counseling and advanced training for professionals specializing in the treatment of relationship issues. At the Council, Ms. Southworth maintains a clinical practice working with issues of personal growth, gender-role conflicts, bereavement, depression/anxiety and divorce-related issues, including divorce mediation.

She teaches about family law and clinical issues in divorcing families in the Council's clinical post-graduate training program. She also presents workshops and trainings locally on a variety of subjects, from child development to divorce-related issues to issues of intimacy, power and gender.

Ms. Southworth began her professional education at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, following which she practiced family law in Philadelphia for 8 years. Working with families in the legal system led to an interest in the then-emerging field of divorce mediation, and then to the study of marriage and family therapy. She was certified as a marriage, family and sex therapist by Marriage Council of Philadelphia in 1989, and established clinical membership in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists at that time. She has practiced in the dual fields of divorce mediation and marriage and family therapy since 1989.
